Artist: Giovanni Salimena
Giovanni was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. A constant doodler as a child, he finally put those burgeoning art skills to work as head illustrator at The Oregon Daily Emerald in Eugene, Oregon for three years where he received several national and regional awards for his smart and edgy editorial illustrations. After receiving his BFA from the University of Oregon he entered the work force as a graphic designer, always knowing that his heart was in illustration.
In 2002 Giovanni launched Salimena Studios and set out to make a name for himself as a freelance illustrator. You may have seen his illustrations in ad campaigns and on several Oregon based businesses letterheads. You may even have a Salimena in your own home if you have a shopping bag from Market of Choice grocery stores in Oregon.
An avid blues fan and musician, Giovanni is a fountain of music knowledge and trivia especially of blues, jazz and early rock and roll. His love of music comes alive in his illustrations of music legends, his characterizations of musical instruments, and his wildly creative multimedia CD's.
